Information

Ranked top of the table in the Financial Times' list of Europe’s Leading Patent Law Firms, EIP advises on high-value and complex patents.  Its multidisciplinary team combines patent attorneys, commercial IP lawyers and specialist litigators in three of the world’s main patent markets - Germany, UK and USA - and now also in the Nordics through our recent expansion into Sweden.  EIP has a wealth of experience in helping start-up and spin-out companies, as well as larger and more established businesses.  We counsel clients on strategic patent portfolio development and have implemented high-level IP strategies for some of the world’s largest companies.

Our patent drafting, prosecution and challenges practice obtains and defends patents for our clients, to maximise the value of their innovations.  The team also invalidates patents held by others, to improve our clients’ freedom to operate, and has, for example, conducted hundreds of oppositions before the European Patent Office (EPO).

Our commercial IP lawyers advise on commercial arrangements and agreements on the exploitation and use of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs), information technology, and issues arising in relation to data protection and rights of privacy.  Our “Codiphy” team provides software-reliant and data-rich companies with joined-up thinking from expert patent attorneys and IP lawyers.  This multi-disciplinary team aligns commercial, technical and legal to address the unique challenges and opportunities in this space.

Our litigation practice has built an enviable reputation for quality and success amongst its competitors and clients, with a strong track record including a landmark ruling on Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) from the UK Supreme Court.  Our patent attorneys work hand-in-hand with the litigation team in the UK and Germany, to provide technical expertise and put forward the very best case on large scale international patent litigation matters.

On 1 June 2023, a new patent system came into force, allowing a European patent to be converted into a Unitary Patent, which is a single right having effect in 17 participating EU countries. The Unitary Patent allows a single legal action to be launched against copycat third parties with effect in all 17 participating EU countries.  EIP Amar, an alliance between EIP and Amar Goussu Staub in Paris, is a dedicated, experienced and technically skilled team of patent litigation specialists created to support clients in any high-stakes litigation before the new Unified Patent Court (UPC) in Europe.
